| Isaac Hayes nasce a Covington (Tennesee) nel 1942. I suoi genitori morirono quando era ancora bambino. Isaac inizia la sua carriera come cantante del coro della chiesa all'età di 5 anni. In chiesa impara in maniera del tutto autonoma a suonare il piano, il sassofono e l'organo, tutto questo prima di trasferirsi a Memphis. Qui era solito lavorare per la Stax, cosa che fece per tutti gli anni 60. Sono parecchie le esperienze che fa agli inizi della sua carriera: produttore, autore, pianista, etc. Collabora inoltre con molti artisti come Otis Redding, David Porter, Sam and Dave, Carla Thomas e Johnnie Taylor.Nel 1971 il grande successo "Theme from Shaft" spopola in tutto il mondo, vincendo pure un oscar. Dopo il suo "Joy" del 1973, Hayes compone due colonne sonore: "Tough Guys" e "Truck Turner" (nel quale è anche attore). Nel 1975 si interrompe bruscamente il rapporto con la Stax dopo che intercorrono con la stessa problemi legali dovuti ai pagamenti dei diritti. A questo punto Isaac decide di creare una propria etichetta la Hot Buttered Soul. E' la volta dei dischi d'oro "Chocolate Chip" e "Groove-a-thon" del 1976. Un anno dopo Isaac registra "A Man and a Woman" ed alcuni singoli come "Zeke the Freak", "Don't Let Go" e "Do You Wanna Make Love". Successivamente è la volta degli album "And Once Again" nel 1980, e "Lifetime Thing" nel 1981. Nel 1986 prova un ritorno con "U Turn" e due anni dopo con "Love Attack"....Rimane ancora oggi uno dei piu' grandi conpositori dei nostri giorni....!!!! | |
