An answer from: Susan Suruda - Programs Coordinator & Director of Marketing: It's simply the most innovative and prestigious songwriting mentorship program ever offered! i attended last year and was so blown away i accepted the position of Programs Coordinator and Marketing Director in order to help spread the word. This year's "Invitational" staff includes, award winning songwriters: Skip Ewing , Deanna Bryant, Clay Mills, and Chris Wallin... For an entire week, You'll have their eyes and ears paying attention to your writing. And, most exciting of all... if You're accepted to the Horse & Writer Invitational program, You'll be able to attend on SCHOLARSHIP! That means, this year (and hopefully every year from now on!) You won't have to pay the $2500 dollar tuition fee! just your application fee(s) and your travel to and from the ranch. I think there's a misconception that Skip and the pro staff are looking for people who are already "master hit writers" but that's not the case. If a song like that comes across our mail pile, you can be sure we're gonna get it into the hands (and ears) of the powers that be... but I asked Skip to tell me what it is he's looking for from applicants and he said: "What we’re really looking for are writers whose work shows us they have genuine promise and are taking steps in the right direction. If they’re talented and committed, and feel that what this program offers might truly help them become the writer they know they can be then I hope they apply."
