After almost 20 years of writing, I discovered Hip Hop. It appealed to me in ways other music genres never did. It allowed to see, feel, and most importantly understand words very differently. Despite a lot of an overly commercial hip-hop clutter prime TV offered, I found myself in the middle of hip-hop. It allowed me to speak to everyone, while using my own words. That discovery was absolutely astonishing.

I had my first real hip-hop encounter in 1992 with Dr. Dre’s Chronic. Yet, back then I wasn’t ready for it. I listened to the now infamous beats and wondered what those people wanted to say. That life was totally foreign to me. I continued writing in my own genre. Some of my works were published in newspapers, various compilations and magazines. Yet, as music progressed and sublimated more than evolved, I suddenly heard the words. I realized that people were no longer talking about issues and values in hip-hop. Hip-hop was so beautiful because it was the most honest form of written expression available to everyone. Then it stopped. Lyrics became about drugs, alcohol, sex and the never-ending chase for money. It stopped being art for the sake of art of expression. It stopped being what it was.

I am not making an attempt to bring old hip-hop back. I am not trying to make a grand statement. I am reporting on what's happening with Hip-Hop and R&B in NYC and help spread various messages from it. I am doing it through my writing and utilizing my business skills. I founded WORDSnTUNES in 2004 and in 2007 it took off more than I ever could have imagined. It became all of my life.

WORDSnTUNES is a premier NYC Hip Hop review publication. The main focus of it is NYC Urban music scene. Major Hip Hop and R&B shows are reviewed here and performers/artists are interviewed. Most of the reviews tend to look inside the industry and offer information on artists lives, views and opinions, without as much of an expected commercial clutter. Artists interviewed range from old school legends like Rakim and Chuck D. to everyone’s favorite Wu-Tang members and new exciting acts like Mims. R&B artists are also covered with interviews from Genuwine, Marsha Ambrosius, Cheri Dennis and more. If they do a show in NY, WORDSnTUNES will cover it! Even out-of-towners like Chamillionare, Obie Trice, Lupe Fiasco and others will get reviewed and interviewed, as long as they do a show in NY. The goal of WORDSnTUNES is to spread information to make a reader think about the current state of Hip Hop and to make people aware of what most artists represent.

Besides providing publicity for well-known artists, WORDSnTUNES also provides marketing for upcoming artists. Reaching the larger audience to let them know of a new act is not an easy task.
