| Drummer, percussionist and composer focused on brazilian music and jazz. Mario Gaiotto plays with the brazilian notheast musician Antonio Nobrega since 2002. Nobrega's music is a mix of brazilian genres like Maracatu-Nação, Maracatu-Rural, Frevo, Ciranda, Baião, Cabocolinho, Bumba-Meu-Boi, Cavalo-Marinho, Choro and Samba. On Nobrega's records and performances, Gaiotto also played with brazilian top artists like Paulinho da Viola, Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso, Dominguinhos, Elba Ramalho, Chico César and Alceu Valença. Mario Gaiotto also plays, composes and arranges on Mandu Sarara's group, wich mixes brazilian genres and jazz. On Mandu's albuns you can find guest musicians like Hermeto Pascoal, Danilo Caymmi, Proveta, Swami Jr. and Edmilson Capelupi. The drumset-percussion blend is the goal on Mario Gaiotto's performances and records. He creates percussion setups for four voices playing. On his "Maracatu-Nação" setup, he has gongue on left foot, snare on left hand, alfaia-drum on right hand and alfaia-bass-drum on right foot, each one playing a different pattern, creating a maracatu full orchestra sensation, as you can see on "Maracapiba" youtube video. On his "Maracatu-Rural Setup", he plays two gongues on both left hand and foot, snare drum on left hand and high-pitched drum on right foot, as you can listen on the track "Peleja em Sol". His "Choro-Samba Setup" is composed by a pandeiro on hands and two tamborins on feet as you can see on "Da Varanda Interiorana" youtube video. In the track "Boi de La", you can hear his "Bumba-Meu-Boi Setup", wich is a big frame drum played with two sticks and two caxixis on both hands alternating strokes on skin and rim. Mario Gaiotto's compositions are traditional brazilian genres as much as brazilian jazz. | |
