| As their name suggests, double_negative are a positive force within the growing Wellington breaks scene. The lads, John Henderson and Nick Gardner met at an audio engineering course in 2001 and have been producing music together ever since. They began with drum and bass tunes and eventually progressed to producing solid, original breaks tunes which have formed a unique sound, some dark and techy, others atmospheric but altogether their own. John and Nick have promoted their music while giving other new producers valuable opportunities to have their tracks heard through their break beat collective label, Empathy, which was formed in 2002 with C Form and Shannon Mckenna. Empathy has released three compilation cds, including Plug in Drummer and most recently, Is This Code. These feature well known artists such as Agent Alvin, The Upbeats and Trei and the cream of double Negatives own tracks including Interrogate and Fragments. The duo has been djing at various venues over the last year and also feature on the Electric Caboose show on Radio Active. Their shows are a treat for breaks fans although John and Nick are into slightly different styles, the resulting mixes are dirty, funky and leave you craving more. They have also worked on remixes and collaborations with The Upbeats (NZ), Neztic (Mexico) and White Papoo (France).
