Solanums est un nouveau duo issu de la rencontre à la scène comme à la ville entre Anita Campardon, artiste peintre fondatrice du collectif "caze Zero" (gtr/voix) et Fred Baleix-Vignau (gtr/voix/prog.) ancien frontman des Peter Plane (groupe bruitiste des glorieuses 90's). Ils viennent d'accoucher de leur 1er opus digital "F-A-R", travaillé art(y)sanalement à la maison dans les règles du do it yourself, sans pression et avec comme seul objectif la création d'un univers commun rempli de complicité et de tension. Curieuse sensation à l'écoute de ces 10 titres, mélanges de voix susurrées et sensuelles ponctuées d'une mécanique implacable digne de l'horloge universelle. L'ambivalence des sentiments y est troublante, comme si les climats oppressants et hypnotiques nous conduisaient inexorablement vers une quiétude apaisante, à moins qu'une torpeur cotonneuse et diabolique nous ait définitivement envoûté. L'instrumentation y est riche et variée, remplie de motifs abstraits, fantômes de krautrock urbain ou de rythmiques disco-cold tout droit issus des 80's. Le travail au scalpel de la matière électronique se marie à merveille aux guitares éthérées et autres explorations soniques. En résumé ce couple diabolique semble avoir trouvé l'alchimie ultime entre douleur et douceur. Bien qu'issus du sud-ouest de la France, Solanums trouverait toute sa place dans l'écurie d'outre Rhin, Morr Music aux cotés de groupes désormais célèbres comme Tarwater, Lali Puna et autres Notwist. Solanums is a new duo born of the encounter in life, as on stage, between Anita Campardon (gtr/vocals), a painter who founded the artists' collective "Case Zéro", and Fred Baleix-Vignau (gtr/vocals/prog), the former frontman of Peter Plane, a noise band of the glorious 90's. They have just released their first digital opus, "F-A-R", wrought at home craft(Art)ily following the DIY rules, without pressure and with the sole purpose of creating a common world in which complicity and tension merged. Listening to the album gives you a strange feeling due to the whispered, sensuous voices punctuated with the inexorable ticking of the clockwork of time. The ambivalence of moods here is unsettling. The oppressive, mesmerizing atmosphere inevitably leads you to feel deep quiet and peace, unless it were some muffled devilish torpor which bound you like a spell. The instrumentation is rich and varied, infused with abstract patterns and reminiscences of urban Kraut Rock or of the Cold Disco beats straight from the 80's. The chiselled work on the electronic material suits the ethereal guitars and other sound explorations to perfection. The entrancing couple seems to have found the perfect, definite alchemy between grief and consolation. Although they come from the South-West of France, Solanums would fit Morr Music productions across the Rhine next to such bands as Tarwater, Lali Puna, Notwist and the likes.
