Tim Minton, my neighbor and owner of Tim’s Upholstery in Lynchburg, agreed to show me how to recover a bench seat in exchange for me helping him get his business going…and the rest is history. After 4 years of working with Tim, I moved to Alabama to work with Chris Posey primarily doing vinyl tops. During that year with Chris, he taught me how to upholster furniture, which prepared me for my move back home to Hillsboro, Ohio. I started doing upholstery jobs part-time for friends and family – if it needed upholstered – I did it! In 1994, Rick’s Upholstery became my full time business, working behind my mom’s antique mall, Diana’s Memory Lane. I am thankful to my Mom for providing me a space to begin and grow the business. Ten years later, I moved into my own space at 710 S. East Street in Hillsboro, where the business is still located today.What started out as a career change, and an interest in the creative side of the industry, has developed over more than 20 years into a passion for upholstery as a true art form. I approach each job with great consideration to the customers’ desires for a unique, long-lasting, quality interior. Investing a piece of myself into every project, I give my full attention to each detail. Over years of fine-tuning and further developing my art, I now specialize in custom street rods, airplanes, boats, cars & trucks. A seasoned upholsterer once told me that if I went one day without learning something new, that I needed to get out of the business. With that in mind, my skills and designs are constantly evolving, allowing me to create for my customers a one of a kind interior that they can be proud of.
