Saturday May 3, 2008 HUB -- 2 Goulston Street E1 7TP London [ GOOGLE MAPS ] JOAKIM (VERSATILE) SAL P (LIQUID LIQUID) (99 / DOMINO / DFA) PANICO (TIGERSUSHI) NADIA KSAIBA (OUR DISCO / GO BANG) 20JAZZFUNKGREATS DJS Salvatore Principato of legendary no-wave outfit LIQUID LIQUID makes a super-rare onstage appearance with Chilean 5-piece Panico (Tigersushi) for this, the first in a series of events which invites live collaborations between musical pioneers and the inheritors of their artistic legacy. Panico established their psychedelic punk funk credentials with their seminal 2005 LP ‘Subliminal Kill’ and in echoing the stripped down sound as pioneered by Liquid Liquid in the early 80s, form part of the new generation of bands including LCD Soundsystem and Friendly Fires who continue Liquid Liquid's legacy into the 21st century.Sal will also be performing an exclusive DJ set, bringing the vibes of his Universal Sunday Sessions in NYC to LDN. With a record collection that spans three decades, Sal promises to reveal everything from Fela Kuti Afrobeat to West End Records disco via some abstract dancefloor gems. Guiding the night's transition from live session to rocking party is Joakim who after remixing everyone from Alter Ego to Air to Zombie Zombie has showed a real flair for fusing 80's underground punk, electro pop and mystical electronics. Closing the night and sending you home is London's Nadia Ksaiba. Nadia is resident at Say Yes/Go Bang/queen bee of the London electro-disco scene and as one quarter of "And Did We Mention Our Disco" was the first to bring the likes of 2Manydjs, Lindstrom & Prins Thomas, and James Murphy (DFA) to London. This is a timely event which hopes to create as much as it documents, co-inciding with Domino's re-release of Liquid Liquid's back catalogue and featuring specially commissioned material. And while The Get Set have taken the hotbed of early 80s NYC as inspiration for their first event the group hope to go on to explore other musical themes with a similar setup. Don't expect anything too obvious just yet though; with their musical influences set to wide angle, future sound clashes could cover anything from Krautrock to Disco to Jazz to Dubstep.
