| To be kept up to date on all the latest news and offers availalble nowhere else join the mailing list below and you'll be given access to an exclusive FREE MP3. We promise not to clog up your inbox. The Standards are Neil (Vocals, Guitar) Mark (Vocals, Bass) Scott (Vocals, Drums) - all singing, all playing, all writing. For us to try to describe our {or any} music would be like dancing to architecture so you decide. We have no aspirations to be indie or underground, we're a pop/alternative group who writes instantly catchy tunes that you can't help whistling along to after one earful, think that's a description actually isn't it? We like to have fun and make party at our shows. Come see for yourself... Here's some acts we've played with... The Wombats, Sparks, The Cribs, Friendly Fires, The Soho Dolls, The Draytones, 747's and The Rakes to name a few. We won the final of the AKG unsigned heroes comp whittled down from 800 bands to just 3 at KOKO in June 07, twas a splendid night. It saw us play the Isle of Wight Festival 07 and go into the studio with top producer Jez Coad. Click view all blog entries above to read our biog and catch up on what else has been going on for us of late... We thankyou kindly for reading thus far. Music:Member Since: 10/6/2005Band Website: reverbnation.com/thestandardsmusic Band Members: NEIL: VOCALS/GUITARMARK: BASS/VOCALSSCOTT: DRUMS/VOCALS Influences: wildlife, lovelife, open spaces, open minds, open hearts, closed doors... everything that's came to pass and yet to come........ Sounds Like: HERE’S WHAT OTHER’S HAVE KINDLY SAID: Metro The Standards have an admitted love for the classic British "B" bands like Bowie, The Beatles and Badfinger, which is evident from their high energy power-pop. What I like about them is they take their influences and turn them into something modern sounding that sits nicely next to Brit-pop groups like Blur, Pulp and The Kaiser Chiefs. Three self-produced songs isn’t much to base an opinion on, but from what I can tell, the future is looking pretty bright for these lads. Losing Today magazine www.myspace.com/losingtoday (Review for I feel like space) Lifting itself out of the Indie gutter, setting fire to its own arse and aiming at the moon. 3 part harmonies, incandescent guitars and unspeakable joy all appear upon hearing this track. The Standards certainly aren’t Standard, they sound more like The Beach Boys tackling Guided by voices now thats what I call promise. Logo Magazine Bringing to the table an alternate rock sound, main vocalist Neil Winspear, croons and wollows away his worry’s. Stand out song, Some Singers is a piano based, feeling fuelled, quintessentially english tune with a smart ending in the winding down of the piano. www.unearthedtreasures.co.uk With the twisted sea shanty spookiness of The Coral, The Standards have created a sound that echoes many glorious moments of the 60s but with enough of their own identity to call it their own - spiralling guitars, crooned vocals and a sense of classicism that assures their future importance in this world of music! By Jeremy Chick, Subba Culcha www.subba-cultcha.com/demo.php The Standards are three way harmonies and a lead singer who has a signature jubilance, but it’s the confidence of the songs and arrangements that shine here. The first ‘Some Singers’ has a piano led signature, like a more Beach Boys-esque Keane and sounds like a choirboy-less Delays, it’s a top 5 hit in waiting. ‘The Great Society’ is a gothic, deep voiced claustrophobic tune lightened by the sharing of vocal duties in which the 2nd voice adds a sunny chorus to his companion’s black cloud; it’s a distant cousin of Oasis’ ‘Acquiesce’. Totally cracking; watch this space. By Tom Hocknell www.rockfeedback.com Singer/guitarist, Neil Winspear’s croon is Jarvis Cocker meets Scott Walker. Add the killer harmonies from bassist, Mark Ness and drummer, Scott Pragnell, and the full package is one seriously infectious indie-pop sound.
