Jan-Clair.com is a labor of love that has taken a long journey on a curvy road. My love of jewelry and any form of art started many years ago with my love of seashells, rocks, coral, minerals and gemstones. I grew up on the north-end beaches of Palm Beach, Florida hunting obsessively for natural treasures, surrounded by surfers and sun seekers. I took Jewelry and Enameling at Palm Beach Junior College back in the 70’s and fell in love with precious metals, especially silver. It was cooler and brighter to me with my dark skin tone, dark eyes and hair. It brightened me up. A few years later, a close friend and I attended a summer college program for stained glass and sandblasting at Rhode Island School of Design. The years rolled by and two children later, I started making essential-oil soaps. Although fun and rewarding, I turned to beading out of a need to wear accessories that I liked. Being a beachcomber, tree hugger and flower child, I wanted things that were close to my heart: shells, coral, turquoise and wood – earthy, tribal, natural feeling things. I’ve been inspired by so many beautiful cultures and friends and family. I have an incredibly elegant mother whose taste in jewelry is flawless, a darling daughter, and three lovely nieces whom I think of often when designing. Only the best materials are used in my collections. I incorporate pieces and pendants from wonderful artisans and silver and gems from all over this awe-inspiring planet. Being a perfectionist, I finish all my pieces in a strong and durable way so they will last. I hope that you enjoy my unique and truly inspired designs.
