| Peter grew up in Jamaica in the sixties. He used to listen to his father’s music, mostly jazz and Cuban music. His father used to take him to listen to his Uncle play congas and bongos. In that time in Jamaica, ska was big. Trucks used to carry bands to play in public places. At age 10, he started to collect vinyl records. His Aunt gave him his first two records, both by the Wailers, on their own label, "Nice Time" and "Bend Down Low." His Uncle also gave him "Fatty, Fatty," album by the Heptones. At that time, in Harbour View, Pete used to go over to Mr. Goffe, who made vacuum tube amplifiers. To play music, one had to have a sound system. A technician by the name of Baz gave Pete a thirty watt amplifier. From that, he was on his way. Making amplifiers and speaker boxes, and forming alliances with other selectors. He used to buy dub plates from Studio One, Treasure Isle, Techniques, and other indy producers. He and Albert Malawi had a sound system called Qualitex Hi-Fi, before Jah Mik and Jah Love. He also used to play Malawi’s drums. He used to listen to sound systems like King Tubbys, Prince Patrick, Emporer Faith, Jack Ruby’s, Arrow’s, Kilatone, Papa Roots, VJ’s, and others.Check out Natty Dread Magazine, Issue 47, it’s in french, a write-up about P-Tah Kruud.
