... Date/Of/Birth is a phenomenon. Brought together by a distinct passion for making spontaneous yet sophistcated music, the trio combines acoustic and organic elements with electronic and programmed sounds to create a unique musical experience. A combined music sensibilty that takes the listener from the church to the classroom, from the streets to the livingroom, Date/Of/Birth stretches the mould of the conventional Piano, Bass and Drums trio.
......... Deron Johnson (Piano, keyboards) - Deron hails from southern California. He has played with Miles Davis, Alanis Morrisette, Robben Ford, Stanley Clark, Dave Douglas - among countless others. He is currently on tour with Soul/Pop icon Seal. With a deep history in perfoming with jazz legends, along with a sincere connection to and appreciation of the folk songbook, Deron brings an intense palette to the trio.
.................. Oscar Seaton (Drums) - Oscar's natural talent for drums was evident at the age of four when he started playing his Mom's pots and pans. "Playing drums is all I ever wanted to do", Oscar remembers, "Being a drummer was not a choice for me, it was my God given talent, it's a part of me. When I'm playing, I'm complete, becoming one with the music". Oscar's musical creativity was birthed in the church followed by local gigs around Chicago. Oscar got his first major break playing with piano legend Ramsey Lewis. Since Lewis, Oscar has played, recorded and or toured with artists Grover Washington Jr., David Sanborn, Joe Sample, Kirk Whalum, Phil Upchurch, Fareed Haque, Yolanda Adams, Boz Scaggs, George Benson and Lionel Richie...to name a few.
........................... Brett Simons (Acoustic & Electric Bass) - "Explore the roots and break the rules," so goes Brett's musical motto. "Don't be confined as an artist by the limitations of genre and style." This decree rings true in Brett's role in Date Of Birth. Bringing a diverse musical backround to the harmonic and rhythmic middle man role in the trio, Brett keeps things solid while bouncing off of Deron and Oscar. Brett is currently on tour with Fiona Apple. He has also played and recorded with Liz Phair, Chocolate Genius, Michael Brook, Lin Halliday, Patricia Barber and numerous others.
.................................... The debut release Undiscovered will be available soon. The recording features the trio's hybrid of organic and electronic elements. Special guests include saxophonist Kenny Garrett, vocal and piccolo bass contributions from Armand Sabal-Lecco and percussionist Lenny Castro.
