KJB AGENTS, CRY OF SILENCE, SCATTERHEART, HAVEN, THE GOLDEN MEAN, SWEETHEART, FFI & UTS FEATURED ARTISTS SPOT (for wk of 5/05)FIREBRAND Firebrand is: Mark Herget — Guitar/Vocals Niko Condon — Bass/Vocals Kyle Allesia — Drums Classic blistering guitar riffs are the instigation to most people’s love for rock music, so shouldn’t a band be bringing Rock back! Energy Rock, Hard Rock.. .Great Rock! Firebrand is the embodiment of what rock music was meant to do.. .inspire a generation, play air guitar, and bang your head! Musically, Firebrand is essential and thorough and purely captivating. Firebrand’s latest demo release ‘No Reason’ captures the band’s true rock spirit and explosiveness. Band members Mark Herget (guitar/vocals), Niko Condon (bass/vocals), and Kyle Allesia (drums) worked with engineer Matt Doiron to record 5 songs that would best exemplify Firebrand’s melodies, enthusiasm, and sheer rock prowess. The blistering speed of “Fits Like Tetris” takes the listener full throttle into their ‘World of Rock’. At the same time, the crescendo build in “Long Way Down” gradually soothes the listener with growling vocals and dynamically challenges the listener to not enjoy the ride! Other highlights include the heart soothing “Behind the Times” and the brilliant catchy hooks in “Silver City”. From track one until track five the standard is the same: bottom heavy beats, string crushing bass overtones, exemplary guitar work, and growling raspy vocals you’ve been missing oh so long! “Rock music is a scene, but it’s a scene that’s missing something special,” says Mark. “If rock music was Rome, we have only just begun Day 1, there’s plenty more to build.” Niko also adds, “Musically we just fit together so well since ‘our’ Day 1, so the sky is the limit and we intend to get there.” As a lyricist, Mark try’s to explore your sense of creation, imagination, and invention. Drawing from poets like Tom Waits and Bob Dylan you are left to make your own conclusions in a world of words and images. Everyday encounters and everyday movements are painted into a collage of divers emotional story telling, hidden amongst the hardness of the track laid underneath. Going back in time, Mark and Niko of Firebrand met the same way many aspiring musicians from Vancouver do: an advertisement in the Georgia Straight. Kyle was playing in a different band at the time, but was soon drawn to the sounds of Firebrand.
