About Me

25th ANNIVERSARY!

JUNE 25 - JULY 5, 2009

Jazz Ascona History

Ascona is the heartland of traditional and classical jazz in Europe, and over the past 23 years has become a synonym for quality.
Many great artists on the New Orleans, swing and blues scene have performed in Ascona:
Kid Thomas Valentine, Louis Nelson, Doc Cheatham, Arvell Shaw, Albert Casey, Sammy Price, Danny Barker, Sam Butera, Kenny Davern, Bob Wilber, Freddy Cole, Monty Alexander, Houston Person, Plas Johnson, Red Holloway, Jesse Davis, Harry Allen, Warren Vaché, Lewis Nash, Peter Washington, Bucky Pizzarelli, Howard Alden, Frank Vignola, Sam Butera, Ed Polcer, Bob Wilber, Kenny Davern, Jonny Varro, Dan Barrett, Ray Sherman, Duke Heitger, Evan Christopher, Marva Wright, Eddie Bo, Lillian Boutté, Troy Andrews, Herlin Riley, Henry Butler, Shannon Powell, Dr. Michael White, and many others, in addition to the great protagonists of European classical jazz, Sammy Rimington, Keith Nichols, Romano Mussolini, Hengel Gualdi, Rossano Sportiello, Rhoda Scott, Dado Moroni, and so on...

Once again this summer - From June 25 to July 5, 2009 - the wonderful Ascona lakefront will be transformed into a European New Orleans with the 24th edition of JazzAscona New Orleans & Classics.
Ten days of great jazz, with sprinkles of blues, R&B, soul, Latin rhythms e funk; with over 200 concerts, more than 400 hours of live music, played by 40 bands of 250 musicians from all over the world and especially from New Orleans, city with whom Ascona has a strong, solid, indissoluble bond.
The very rich 2008 program proposed by artistic director Nicolas Gilliet begins with a tribute to the great clarinet player Benny Goodman, to his drummer Gene Krupa and guitarist Danny Barker, whose 100-year birth anniversarys occur this year.
