Shirzad Sharif was born 1977 in Tehran, Iran and was raised in a highly acclaimed musical family which has nurtured the likes of the Tar ("Persian Lute") Grand Master Ostad Farhang Sharif, this exposed him to the intricacies of Persian classical music from an early childhood which was inspired by his grandmother's elaborate drumming. While in Iran Shirzad had the great privilege of studying the Tonbak drum under the direct supervision of the great Tonbak Grand Master Ostad Bahman Rajabi which is considered to be one of the most innovative and progressive Persian schools of thought ("Maktab") with heavy emphasis on creativity, musical and artistic freedom.

Shirzad also learned the ancient Kurdish sacred lute known as Tanbur which is widely used in Sufi ceremonies and is considered to be one of the most sacred instruments in Iran. He also performs the Daf which is also another Kurdish sacred Suf<<<<<<<
