| Alyson Calagna Bio International DJ /Producer Alyson Calagna has been gracing the globe with her signature sound and mind-blowing beats for the past 16 years. She discovered the sound of House Music at the age of thirteen while living in Aberdeen, Scotland, and never looked back. That introduction into the world of progressive and unfamiliar sounds would lead to a lifelong love of electronic music and a burning desire to create a sound that would become her own.Returning with her family to South Louisiana Alyson began searching the underground and mainstream club scenes in New Orleans and Lafayette looking for the familiar sounds she had heard overseas. Music had become an obsession and the search was never ending for a chance to work the turntables. Eventually, at age 16 she was befriended by a young DJ named “Iceman” who took her under his wing and put her behind the tables in a small club in Lafayette, Louisiana; she was hooked and nothing and no one was going to stop her from reaching that dream. Along the way, a trip to South Florida to enter a spin off contest won her a Power 96 Hot Mixer contest and a chance to spin on live radio and with that her journey began in earnest.Making her mark on the South Florida scene attracted the attention of local promoters which led to regular gigs in Miami and Atlanta and eventually led to a 2 year long residency at Club 735 on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. Continually searching for a sound that uniquely she could call her own, and drawn by the heavy percussion and haunting beats of the Latin and Island influenced sounds in Miami, Alyson made a permanent move back to South Florida. Gaining in popularity and developing a reputation for holding her own among the “big boys” in the DJ booth, Alyson was soon spinning her magic on dance floors throughout South Florida including the legendary Salvation in Miami Beach.Always introducing unprecedented sounds has become as much a part of her musical trademark as her signature long overlays and rhythmic sampling. Her musical vision has transformed dance floors in some of the biggest clubs in North America; Avalon-LA, Crobar-Miami & NYC, Nation-DC, Release-San Francisco and Space-Miami. A regular on the Circuit, Alyson has headlined at some of this countries premier fund raising events including Blue Ball- Philly, Cherry -DC, White Party & Winter Party – Miami, Jungle – Houston, Southern Decadence and Halloween - New Orleans and she recently garnered rave reviews for her 2008 performance at One Mighty Weekend-Orlando’s Arabian Nights spectacular. Along with a full US schedule Alyson regularly spins in the clubs in Rio and San Paulo Brazil, Mexico City, Toronto and Montreal Canada and Vancouver, British Columbia pushing the boundaries by bringing her eclectic mix of electro, tribal and funky house music to the dance floor and the screaming masses to their knees. From the DJ booth to the studio, Alyson’s unending quest for innovative beats continually drives her to uncover the unexpected. Her singles and remixes can be found on labels such as Intenso Recordings in Madrid with Thomas Penton, as well as Pure Music, Hammer and Star 69.Her remix of Christian George’s “Strangers” just recently reached top ten in the 2008 Billboard Dance chart.
Alyson’s intuitive gift of knowing what the crowd wants and needs is part of her charisma. She spins from the soul and refuses to be put inside a musical box. Her deep seeded love and passion for what she does keeps her forever on her toes to find the music that makes people move. It is certain that her unforgettable style, and ability to evoke such emotional reactions to her music, will keep her dance floor enthusiast starry eyed for years to come. |
