About Me |
|
| Carlo Garof is an authentic new millenium musician . He moves freely from jazz to the territories of total improvisation, as well as from blues to contemporary euro-cultured music. His main instruments are the drums (often prepared drums) and percussions and he also uses recycled objects and materials to realize unusual sounds.
His musical education has been eclectic as are his musical interests and artistic world; he was born in Milan in 1975, at 4 years old receiving his first notions of music and singing in the choirs of protestant Pentecostal churches - an interesting analogy to what has happened for decades amongst Afro-American musicians.
He has always been fascinated by the musical aspect of household objects and spontaneously grew close to the world of percussions; as an adolescent he played drums in numerous youth rock, crossover, metal and funk bands .
He was later won over by jazz thanks to the encounter with A Love Supreme by John Coltrane and this very interest brought him to the Civic Jazz Courses of the International Musical Academy of Milan and to the attainment of a diploma there.
He then completed his education by studying African music for many years in countries such as Mali, Senegal and Burkina Faso, lately gaining a music therapy diploma. This variety of studies made him into a musician and an eclectic researcher with an already intense experience of performance in national and international festivals and in prestigious theatres and jazz clubs, together with famous figures on the music scene such as
Antonello Salis, Airto Moreira, Billy Cobham, Mederic Coulignon, Enrico Rava, Gianluigi Trovesi

TONGS The trio adopt different compositional strategies to create a music that keeps growing. Different strategies implies different approaches for what regards composition and/or improvisation, to soloism or to chorality, to writing or to un-writing. Tongs syntax is that used by the actual evolution of the afroamerican-culture but they keep an eye on the emotive face of punk/rock as a form of expression of free souls. Luca Serrapiglio_reeds Antonio Bertoni_basses Carlo Garof_drums, percussions, objects TipToe Massaron and Garof have been playing together for more than five years, always been working in different situations. Tiptoe may extend to a trio (group varies according to the projects, but the core are always the two musicians) so it took part to jazz festivals, it played here and there, unusual situations also. Massaron and Garof wrote and played the music for ”Porto Sepolto”, short movie by Paolo Cattaneo, they gave musics to a documentary about Alejandro Jodorowsky and, together with cartoonist Stefano Misesti, they are working on a multi-media project. Their concerts are quite based on improvisation and interplay, using the feeling and awareness they learned about each other in this last years. The two musicians keep particular attention to the audience and its feedbacks, so the interplay, propose, stimulate, even “frighten” the audience, which has fun as attending to a circus show; then, when your not expecting it, they play a ballad or well-known theme, so the “tempo” is rather a philosophical thana musical meaning. Ironic, competent and manipulator, Tiptoe is the most unusual duo you may expect in present musical scene. Simone Massaron_guitar, devices Carlo Garof_drums, percussions, objects, electronics |
