Music:Member Since: 11/13/2005Band Website: myspaces: tommyandthewhale, careyott, tallesttrees Band Members: Jamie Dick: Papi holdin it down in the hot-seat (drums, percussion) ............................................................ ............................................................ ......................Thomas Samuel: "The deeper the pocket, the thinner the wallet" -J.Dick (Bass) ............................................................ ............................................................ .......................Tommy Hans: The well-worn catcher’s mitt (Electric Guitar, Keys, Vocals) ............................................................ ............................................................ .......................Nathan Hughes: Snake-jaw rides abreast (Electric Guitar, Keys, Percussion) Influences: Rachmaninoff, John Lennon, Debussy, Bob Dylan, Beck, Calvin Johnson, The Pixies, Paul Simon, Pavement, Charles Mingus, Phoenix, The Jayhawks, Victoria Williams, Thrift Store All Stars, Tom Petty, Elliott Smith, Edith Piaf, Ella Fitzgerald, Neil Young, Nina Simone, Dizzy (Gillespie and -ee Rascal), Charlie Parker, Atmosphere, Notorius BIG, of course Radiohead, Modest Mouse, Wilco, The Velvet Underground, The Arcade Fire, The Ramones, The Police, Sublime was my fav in high school ... so on so forth this shit could go on forever. What music has influenced me most? You decide. I am pretty sure I hate Dean Martin and was never a big Paula Cole fan. Lately I have been liking Nick Lowe: "The Convincer", and a couple of old Aphex Twin numbers, and I finally found out that this song I really love is by Brian Eno. And I quite like the new Sonic Youth album. It's what some would call "very good". And Thomas gave me this disc by a group called Dr. Dog that has passed the qualifiers. And now I like Donny Hathaway and Al Green and Stax records, the whole Memphis soul feel, Otis Redding is probably the single greatest singer whose too-early death was the worst tragedy in musical history...ever, and I can almost pick out a Jim Keltner drum track, and Feist is doing well for herself. Sounds Like: A chorus of 10,000 angels. But they each play very little, making sparse yet tasteful choices, so it ends up sounding almost like a five-piece. Record Label: What IS a record label, really? Type of Label: Indie |
