About Me

I am a happy, low-maintenance, laid-back, responsive, friendly, curious, creative/artistic, optimistic, compassionate, passionate, politically aware human who values humility, honor, and humor. I love my job teaching special education students, who often end up teaching me instead. I have a deep passion about worthy causes, both personal and public. Laughing is the force that charges my life.

My beloved brothers John and David, who were the lights of my life, and who showed stunningly awesome courage in living.....and dying. Aaron, for being so strong throughout his life, even though things were rough, and just for being the super-funny, supportive, sensible, serene one. Lindy, for showing remarkable bravery after a devastating head trauma, and carrying on as though everything is still the same. Sandy, for her unbelievable strength after several bouts with the big C. Aunt Lois, for enduring a long life of pain and disability with a great sense of humor and flair. Aunt Bernice, for the strength to carry on through more than 50 years of diabetes, looking marvelous! John Powell, for accepting the challenge of sudden blindness by pushing ahead with a Masters Degree, and more. Darwin, for pushing people's buttons. Ariel & Will Durant, for their commitment to their works of literature. Sidhhartha, because his story inspired me. Helen Keller, because she has been my #1 hero since I saw her speaking on TV when I was a child. POWs, because they reveal what humans are really made of. People who choose their own path, beliefs, and mates without regard for how society will view it, because they know that life is short, and you should spend it following your own bliss. Children, women, and men who survive and thrive after trauma, because I know how difficult it can be. The awesome students I work with every day, because they define the word COURAGE!
