Canola Tenderfoot began life after the joining of two people, musically and in matrimony. Having both spent several years recording and gigging around the UK with other Bristol bands, the Tenderfeet retreated to their Bristol home studio in 2004 and began working alone on a project given the name of Canola (the Celtic goddess of music) Tenderfoot (a novice).

With no agenda, other than to make the best music they can, Canola Tenderfoot utilise electronics, ambience and real-life instruments to make beats, grooves and tunes. Sat atop this musical mountain you will find songs about love, loss, hope, frustration, friendship and getting wasted.

Most of the tracks fit common understandingof trip hop. We got some dub background sounds (“Another sorry tale”), synthesizer parts close to classic ambient music (“Pili pala”) and some massive bass parts (“What is good”). On the other hand we hear some rich guitar, piano, violin and vocals merging into the beat. Viki sings in a dreamy way, transforming her voice with electronics from time to time, what makes her sound a little like Beth Gibbons from Portishead. When rapper B-Leaf joins her, Canola Tenderfoot feels like early Massive Attack.But it’s not so plain along the way. Mr and Mrs Shirley like to move into some other genres, like acoustic psytrance (?) (“Root and branch”), indie-pop (“Time’s Table”) or rich ambient music (“Summum Bonum”, “First Come First Served”). The album was launched at Soho Bar in Bristol on Saturday 10 November. The party was fuelled by DJ sets from Jon Kennedy, DJ Annon Lee, The Basic and Viki & owen themselves. Also showcased were a total of 6 videos to tracks from the album specially made for the launch night. These have been made by (in no particular order) Mikes Coles (Malicious Damage label boss), Zyga, Silly Goose animations, Chris Suddaby, David Wright & B.L.C. Each one them is a treat and will be viewable on Myspace TV, as well the video for our tune 'eleven eleven' included on this page.

Currently, CT are working on new material and collaborating with a number of different artists. These include Forsaken and Kalabi, who Viki is providing vocals for, as well as Zoon Van Snook. And Owen is playing bass in Jon Kennedy's live band.
