Welkin - sonic.death.metal since 1997 Welkin started around the summer of '97 as a sideproject. The early years of the band were marked by a few line-up changes. It wasn't till 2000 that the band managed to get it's first stable line-up when founding members Pepijn (guitar) and Demis (vocals) were joined by ex-member Steven LQW (on bass) and Frank (drums) & Davy (guitar), who had been jamming together for a few months already. In this line-up the band recorded their demo "The untold" at their rehearsing space, with the help of some local rockers. This release led to loads of local gigs and some new contacts. One of the contacts was Svencho (aborted/leng tch'e) who brought the band in contact with The Spew records. Over the years Welkin had been growing and musicaly the band was walking an own deathmetal path. During the summer of 2002 The spew gave green light and the first full album "Angel Inside" was recorded at CCR studios in Zulte. When it saw it's release November 2002, this debut album was received very well by press and public. They all spoke of a big promise. Welkin played some international festivals and visited stages home and abroad. During these days Davy left the band and was replaced by Peter ( ex- FOD, daisy temple) By the end of 2004 Welkin was starting to feel that itch again. Time for some new stuff. In 2005 the sonic death monkey concentrated on writing new material. They played on some special occasions like "fuck the student" and "TAZ 2005" but other than that silence surrounded the Welkin HQ. Around new years 2006 they are ready to hit the studio. Just before the great leap Steven LQW decided to pass the bass to Jef ( Helldozer ). By the summer the new album was recorded and baptised "The_Origin". A Roadmap into the vast spectrum of human emotions. Or how a beast slumbers in all of us. In the fall of 2006 a 2-album deal was signed with new belgian metallabel SHIVER records, who released "The_Origin" April 2007. This release resulted in loads of gigs, one of them being GRASPOP. During the spring of 2008 both Jef and Peter decided they would quit the band to concentrate on new musical en personal projects. Their place was taken by Thomas (ex-Suhrim) on guitars and Frederick (ex-Herfst) on bass.The new line-up is stronger than ever! WELKIN is ready to rock stages all over the world again. They are writing new material so they can hit a studio somewhere in 2009. The monkey lives!
