| James McGovern was always around music. His father, also James McGovern, was a noted author of both fiction and non-fiction books; a New York liberal and intellectual who turned James on to everything from jazz to Earl Scruggs and Hendrix at a young age. There was never a shortage of inspiration. After meeting legendary rockabilly singer Robert Gordon , in 1994 McGovern was then asked to hire the "man himself" as producer for the 1995 EP "Rock & Roll" by French investor Marc Biron. Working with RG changed his life, and he has been on a journey to perform and write rock 'n' roll music in order to save the art form from extinction. One of RG's fave drummers, Bobby Chouinard , world renowned for his soulful straight ahead style, introduced James to Alan St. Jon in order that he might lend his considerable talents as a Keyboardist and backing vocalist to the project. It has been a process, but everyone from Alan to James' best buddy and collaborator guitarist Mark Bosch to Steve Holley , on drums and backing vocals to Mark Dann on Bass and Kenny Aaronson , on bass (and voice of reason!) has contributed greatly to the James McGovern Band. As Chouinard told James, "Rome wasn't built in a day,"and thank God that over the last ten years the James McGovern Band has survived, becoming one of the most soulful and exciting rock 'n' roll bands in New York City.
