FIVE AGAINST ONE
“Torch let from you to me…” Eddie Vedder screamed in Pearl Jam’s 1993 single ‘Animal’. And at that point the grunge movement was in its prime and alight with raw, edgy and unapologetic bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden, Mudhoney and Hole all singing about disassociation and contempt. Generation X had its voice and its sound and nobody could escape it.
That was until the untimely suicide of Nirvana singer Kurt Cobain who many saw as taking the whole scene down with him.
A decade later the flame is flaring up again across the Atlantic where the torch has been passed from its birthplace of Seattle USA to Nottingham UK, where a handful of bands have emerged harnessing that same sound and energy that captured the world.
On Saturday 17th November, Seattle Be The Day 2 will take place with only grunge bands on the bill. Six of them to be exact! who will take to the stage and prove to the world that grunge certainly isn’t dead.
Seattle Be The Day is the brainchild of Michael Preston, frontman of Dead Souls and Emma O’Neill of The Smears (uk), who tired of playing with brit-rock and Oasis-wannabe bands decided to put together six of the countries’ finest alternative rock acts on the one night:
