BORN A LION are breaking down the line with their vigorous and intense sense of rhythm that gets inspiration... lets just say... from the classics. Rodrigo Cassiano (vocals, drums) is a storyteller. Songs of misery, quotidian struggles or heartbreak, caused by the death of a black horse, can also be furiously happy when getting a ride on a 67' Cadillac. The guitar hero happens to be Bruno Cantanhede, but the trio only became complete with the experience of the bass player Nuno Filipe. All together they are soul, they are blues, they are rock, they are BORN A LION - a wild animal born in 2005 that already roars like crazy! Allriiight! "Depois de alcançarem um honroso terceiro lugar no pódio do Termómetro Unplugged realizado em Abril de 2006 e de abrirem em Maio o concerto em Portugal dos britânicos Art Brut, os Born a Lion (Marinha Grande) assinaram pela Rastilho Records o contrato para a edição de "John Captain". Este foi produzido por Marco Jung (Ianasonic, Dapunksportif) e contou com a participação especial de Paulo Furtado (Legendary Tiger Man|Wray Gunn) nas músicas “My Black Horse” (slide-guitar) e “67´Cadillac” (voz). A música dos Born a Lion remete-nos para a paisagem bucólica norte americana, sempre ao longo do curso do Mississipi. Em estúdio a voz de Rodriguez (Rodrigo Cassiano; também baterista) ganha contornos Blues nunca antes imaginados possíveis. A guitarra de Melquiadez (Bruno Cantanhede) cruza frequentemente a ténue barreira entre o Blues e o Rock, enquanto que o baixo de Nunez (Nuno Lopes) é a força motriz do universo Born a Lion. As influências reclamadas pela banda são notórias. Um misto de Johnny Cash, Immortal Lee County Killers, Black Sabbath e Led Zeppelin. Mas não se deixem iludir, os Born a Lion não são mais uma banda que tenta entrar na onda retro por uma questão de moda ou facilitismo. Cada um dos elementos que compõem este trio cresceu a ouvir Blues e Rock´n´Roll e a dedilhar os primeiros acordes ao som dos Led Zeppelin e Black Sabbath. Sem efeitos de catering ou acessórios fúteis, a música dos Born a Lion fala-nos de histórias conturbadas de amor, das vicissitudes da vida. São 8 temas, distribuídos ao longo de 23 minutos de puro Rock em estado impoluto com influências Blues e com um desfecho inimaginável: "Jailbreak” - uma autêntica delícia Gospel, em que os Born a Lion levam aos limites a intensidade do seu Blues acompanhados por um vibrante coro feminino. É assim "John Captain", o Mississipi sempre presente, o Blues de Detroit uma influência constante. São músicas com corpo e alma, tocadas com devoção por quem tem um flirt obsessivo por Rock´n´Roll. O artwork conceptual foi idealizado pela própria banda e recriado pela empresa Coma Visions. O video-clip "John Captain" da autoria do cineasta Carlos Barros (filmado em Torre de Moncorvo e produzido pela Lightbox) é uma peça western cinematográfica no melhor estilo Clint Eastwood. E, acima de tudo, uma história de um amor.....trágico!
