Don't Do Me No Favours .. I really should update this page, but I haven't thought about it much. I mostly use My Space so old friends can find me, and to keep in touch with people who I haven't seen in a while and/or who live far away. |

I'd like to meet:Tiresias Tiresias, according to some stories, was the only person to ever enter the underworld by dying who was still able to reason and think and communicate with the living without blood being sacrificed for him. Philosopher who was so focused on thought and philosophy and reason so much so that he didn't lose those abilities even after losing his life. Interesting thought! (He has a small part in the Odyssey.)And The people who make well thought out movies like No Country for Old Men and the Matrix Trilogy. To make movies with that much detail and cohesion, they must know a lot about a lot of things! |
|
Music:Mostly Outlaw Country (1960's and 1970's) Also, George Strait, Kenny Chesney and the like. Some Classic Rock. Some Oldies. Select songs from other genres. |
|
Movies:Back in the DayA movie where all characters actually stay true to who they are to the end, even as they change. The Outlaw Josey Wales "Then ya gotta get mean. I mean plumb mad dog mean!" V For Vendetta "Thank you, but I'd rather be shot behind the chemical sheds." Dazed and Confused " . . . I won't sign . . . " Casablanca "Have a drink? Of course not. Mind if I do?" (As he's pouring.) Paint Your Wagon "There's two kinds of people. Them goin' Nowhere, and them goin' Somewhere. I'm an ex-citizen of Nowhere, and sometimes I get mighty homesick!" It's a Wonderful Life " . . . if you had never been born . . ." A Christmas Story "Oh fuuuuuuddge!" Three O'Clock High "It's a good read." Tombstone "Eventus stulturum magister." (Fools must be taught through experience) Papillon "I'm still here, you bastards!" |

Books:Silverlock including the Silverlock CompanionAuthor: John Myers Myers Publisher: NESFA Press At Amazon for about $26. Has references to many, many other books in this story. Light reading and makes you want to read other books just to find out which characters you aren't recognizing! Space Author: James A. Michener Publisher: Random House This is a good book that spans decades. Fiction, but relates to real life. To Tame a Land Author: Louis L'Amour Publisher: Bantam Books Ain't no one quite like Rye! The Winter of Our Discontent Author: John Steinbeck Publisher: Penguin Books What can I say that hasn't been said? A classic! John Wesley Hardin, As Written By Himself Author: John Wesley Hardin Publisher: University of Oklahoma Press A documented outlaw and killer, yet reading his autobiography lets the reader see that he was just a man doing the best he could to adapt to tough times while being loyal to himself and his community! It doesn't justify his perspectives or his actions, but it makes them more understandable. Papillon Author: I'll add it later Publisher: I'll add it later I like the movie, but the book is much, much better than the movie. It's about survival for a man who has been condemned to the French penal colonies. The book can portray his emotions and his thought processes. The chapter where he dives into the midst of sharks to save a young child who is pulled out by boatsmen before he can help is especially enlightening. He cries after the event, which gets him some really good treatment on the prison island, but maybe not justly so . . . |
