| EMI Music Publishing singer/songwriter SOL Ruiz is the fine line between contemporary and classic music. Whether it’s her fusion son montuno spice or her down to earth folk lyrics she has an unconventional way of looking at music, and the world around her. She has been compared to the late Janis Joplin, Billie Holiday and Celia Cruz by Miami New Times and has been hailed as "the voice that speaks for this generation" by She Magazine. Singer, composer, guitarist, pianist, and Kazoo extraordinaire, Sol Ruiz, of Cuban decent originally born in Miami, FL has used the cultural mix of her environment to influence and evolve her music to what it is today. She is a top-rate performer who's vocals appear in many compilations such as, Cuba 21, Cubichee and She Said. She has had the opportunity to appear on such stages as Gusman Theatre and Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts (Miami), Conga Room (LA), Hothouse and Empty Bottle (Chicago), S.O.B's (NYC), Knitting Factory and Bowery Ballroom (NYC) and many festivals such as, Sunday on the Mile Jazz Festival, Suwannee River Music Festival, Chicago World Music Festival and World Renown Calle Ocho Carnival. When she's not belting out her own tunes she stars in the signed band Siete Rayo, which is currently signed to Universal Music. Performing came naturally for Sol and so did her songwriting. She has been writing songs since age 11 and now her songs appear in Showtime’s the L Word, Discovery Channel and recording artist albums such as Noelia. She has also collaborated with Grammy nominated writers, Echo, Michelle Fragoso, Goya Winner December Bueno, Sergio Minski, Toni Mardini and Belgian TMF Songwriter of the Year, Liset Alea. Currently she is working on her debut album with EMI, which will be released in 2008. | |
