About Me |
|
| MAR 08: We had a great time at SXSW and the gigs were absolutely packed. Chris was almost arrested at the immigration but at least we did not lose our passports this year. The BBC Radio 1 acoustic live session with Vic Galloway was great (you can listen to the session by clicking here - left of the page, fast forward 85 minutes into the programme) We played two acoustic songs in the session, Favourite thing about Jane and a Beatles cover. Vic Galloway kindly said "..they have such catchy songs, going down a storm at SXSW" Thank you Vic. JAN 08: Happy New Year! Our debut album is finally finished and will be out soon. You can hear a different track in full each week here and we’d love to get some feedback. We’ve been picked again to play at SXSW in Texas in March and you can watch us performing on BBC 2 Scotland’s Rapal show on 13th Feb at 6.30pm, so off to a good start. OCT: We played a few gigs in Moscow. Had a bit of a nightmare journey there thanks to DHL delivering our visas to Innsbruck twice (maybe they think Inverness is in Innsbruck?!), making us miss our flights and arrive a day late. We got off the plane, went straight to do an acoustic gig on one side of Moscow, came offstage, went across to the other side of the city, played an electric gig, finished about midnight, went to our hotel for a sleep then had a 30- hour journey home early the next morning thanks to flight delays!! All good fun though. The Russian movie ’20 Cigarettes’ , which features ’Dead on Arrival’ in the soundtrack and trailers, has just been released there. SEPTEMBER 10 :Our new single is out.....please click on the packshot below to buy the download. You can also buy it from iTunes stores worldwide. " It’s the best record you’ll hear all year." David Strachan, Moray Firth FM "This is great" Alex Lester, Radio 2 "Something rather special’s brewing in the Highlands" Jim Gellatly, XFM "This will be number one in America until the end of time." CultureDeluxe "Excellent" Billy Sloan, Radio Clyde "We love them" Janice Long, Radio 2 Hollywood, Hold On Add to My Profile | More Videos Scottish TV (Entertainment Now) gave us a great plug: "They’re better than Oasis and Blur put together ......they’re young, brash and have a gigabyte of fantastic songs - Inverness’s Jyrojets have their rock afterburner set to eleven...." ------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------- AUG: We had a great time at the Belladrum Festival - thanks to everyone for making it a rocking gig. It was great to play on home soil again. JUNE: Back home from the US and looking forward to our UK headline tour. Had a full page story in The Sun about our BBC BritBus tour and a write-up and photo in NME. Did a live session and interview on Radio 2 for Janice Long and she sent us this email: "such a top set..the listeners were mad for you. We were absolutely inundated with enquiries. Don’t forget us when you are huge! I can’t thank you enough ....Lots of love...Janice x" MAY: Our debut single was released on 14 May - ’Favourite Thing About Jane’/ ’I Don’t Think You Hurt’ on 7" vinyl, CD and download. XFM called it a ’Britpop Anthem’, and we’ve got fans in Jonathan Ross and Stephen Merchant. It was in Sunday Times ’Hottest downloads". It made 24 in the UK Independent Chart and 24 in the UK Student Radio chart. We’ve been getting shed-loads of great press. The Sun called us one of the seven hottest bands of 2007! Did a session for XFM Scotland (Jim Gellatly’s show) The video shoot was mental!!! We all ended up under a pile of bodies after fans rushed the stage, sending equipment flying. Watch it in decent quality on Jyrojets.com CLICK ON THE CD COVER BELOW TO ORDER THE DOWNLOAD Favourite Thing About Jane Add to My Profile | More Videos APRIL: BBC BRITBUS TOUR We toured right across America for 2 months, travelling from San Francisco to New York in a London double-decker bus. We played 50 gigs, including a packed Roxy in Hollywood (it was a real buzz playing ’Hollywood, Hold On’ there!) and The Knitting Factory in New York, and had the best 8 weeks of our lives. It was one crazy ride! We took ’getting out of it’ to a new level... With a top speed of 45mph (downhill), the bus was customised complete with plasma screens and a bar with Bass on tap! The tour hit 15 cities, along with a couple of non-scheduled stops for the odd blow out (windows as well as tyres). We survived extreme desert temperatures with no air-con, tropical storms and some of the country’s less salubrious motels. We went a bit wild in New York and all looked like potatoes by the end of it! --------------------- SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE: "Jyrojets set to play 5 shows in S.F. Jyrojets, the best kept secret at this year’s South by Southwest music festival, is playing five shows in San Francisco this week. Anyone with a weakness for the Stones’ street-fighting swagger or the Kinks’ twinkle-eyed melodies will want to catch at least three. The Scottish five piece is quickly becoming a big deal back in Britain, where, last year, it was handpicked to open for former Verve front man Richard Ashcroft. Now, Jyrojets is crisscrossing the States as the main attraction on the BBC America Britbus tour, giving us a chance to see what all the fuss is about. Check them out........-- Aidin Vaziri " -------- MARCH 07: We were picked from 7,000 bands to play at the SXSW festival in Texas and performed on US station ME TV. NOV 06: The SECC Glasgow gig was brilliant (10,000 people!). Cheers to Richard Ashcroft for asking us to play - he even thanked us during his encore and called us a "great young band". He’s a sound guy - we had a few beers with him backstage after the show. Scottish TV were there and an interview and gig clips went out on the STV News. Dead on Arrival Add to My Profile | More Videos Our debut EP was released. You can download from www.jyrojets.com ____________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________ "a spiralling guitar riff The Edge or Johnny Marr would kill for, a sublime anthem" The Guardian "hottest up-and-coming band" The Sun Noel Gallagher would love to be writing tunes like this.....but it’s the swagger that make Jyrojets so exciting. This band have the fun and the attitude to go all the way." Daily Record "Hottest download" Sunday Times "Brilliant! The name Jyrojets will soon be on everybody’s lips.” Nigel Robbins, President, MTV Networks A.P. “One of the best debut records I’ve heard from any Scottish band.” Billy Sloan, Radio Clyde "popfuckingtastic Jyrojets. They had the lot - the looks, the melodies, the charm and the energy and a fanbase ....." Music Week "a band on the cusp of greatness" BBC Radio Scotland "The hottest tickets in town" Metro "in years to come when they are rock gods, you can tell people "y’know, I was there" Sunday Herald "Forget The View or The Fratellis, Frazer and his men are the real talent from north of the border, come to think of it make that south, west and east as well. Hey, even the Yanks can’t fail to like this." Luton On Sunday "Hotly-tipped rockers Jyrojets have become the first band from Inverness to sign a major record deal. The five-piece have scooped a four-album contract with Songphonic Records - who were so blown away by the demo that they flew from Surrey to the Highlands to hear them play. Jyrojets have been able to jack in their jobs and make music full-time."
