[Tsumi]sounds like a folk-rock band featuring a female singer with a powerful voice like a river of molasses --deep, dark, slow and sweet, a skilled lead guitarist with quick fingers and a knack for nuanced harmonies... Influences from The Pretenders, Dave Matthews Band, Nebraska blues and indie rock sometimes float to the surface – and yet at the same time it's none of these. Guitarists Luke and Heather Sticka, bassist Nick Noel and drummer Brandon Filbert come together to generate Tsumi, and with that genesis rock music is presented with a new consideration and thoughtfulness.On stage, Heather Sticka becomes like fire in presence and volume; her voice is the river that corrals the flame. With an eloquently honest writing ability to back up her silky vocals, many a show attendee has reported getting goose bumps. Nick Noel and Brandon Filbert form an intuitive rhythm section to hold her up, offering kindling for the bonfire with a gentle knack for poignant emphasis. Luke Sticka's nimble fingers jump from metal fast melodic licks to pondering swells from his guitar, exquisitely completing the sound Tsumi creates. Perhaps the most surprising thing about Tsumi is their ability to switch from a rock quartet to an acoustic duo (Luke and Heather) without losing any feeling or energy.A live demo was released in late 2006, "Tsumi Live at The Zoo."
