| Dr. Talia Mae Bettcher is a performance artist, philosopher and professor at California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA). She also teaches at UCLA once in a while.
She is on the Board of Directors of the East Los Angeles Women's Center . She is the Chair of the Center for the Study of Genders and Sexuality at CSULA. She has performed at many venues across the country, and has presented her philosophical work all over, from Estonia to Toronto. Berkeleys Philosophy of Spirit: Consciousness, Ontology and the Elusive Subject came out in 2007 and Berkeley: A Guide for the Perplexed will come out in 2008. She has published on George Berkeley, Service Learning, Transgender politics and theory, and violence. She has articles in numerous publications, chapters in numerous books, and will be co-editing (with Ann Garry) an upcoming edition of Hypatia . She has been honored for the work she has done with the ELA Women's Center on issues of domestic violence, and has received commendations from state and federal officials for her work. Susan Forrest works in HIV services in Hollywood. She is on numerous Task Forces and Consortia addressing the needs of community members who are homeless, gay/lesbian, transgender, living with co-occurring disorders, living with HIV &/or Hep C, people who need medical and mental health care, or who have other needs. She also works with the Overdose Prevention Task Force and other harm-reduction communities. She is on the Steering Committee of the HIV Drug & Alcohol Task Force , is the secretary of the HIV Mental Health Task Force, and is Co-Chair of the City of Los Angeles' Human Relations Commission's LGBT Advisory Council . She is on the Advisory Board of The Center for the Study of Genders and Sexualities at CSULA. She is a member of the California HIV Planning Group We became legal domestic partners in 2006, and we got married 06/17/08. We live together in a great house with a poodle/mutt and two cats. It's a pretty perfect life. |
