WiLX has been together since June of ’05 and has matured as a 5 piece since day one. They began playing private parties and frat houses in Athens, GA and Oxford, MS and now have a good fan base from the Mississippi to the east coast. Their music has continued to stroll into every state in the Southeast and more, making them one of the fastest upcoming regional bands and they don't look like they're slowing anytime soon.Band Story The two guitarists Hayden Smith and Grant Mitchell are both from Atlanta, GA and have been playing together since ’97. They have known each other since their youth and it shows in their live playing. Through the years, the two have learned to compliment each other’s lead work with inner twinning and overlapping riffs. While, both trade off rhythm and lead guitar duties, Smith takes the role of the lead vocalist leaving the listener with a resonating soulful and authentic tone. While attending U. of Miss (Ole Miss), Mitchell and Smith were introduced to drummer Wilkes Evans in ’02 and this became the root of WIiX. Evans, from Columbus, GA, was in a few of his own bands through high school, which prepared him to jump right in the scheme of things and let his style mature and prevail becoming more versatile and well rounded. A couple of years later we were invited to play in The First Popular Street Arts and Music Festival in Athens, GA and that would be the first time bassist Chris Wheeler would be brought into the mix. Wheeler, from Pensacola, FL, grew up in a well-enriched musical family and is a creative influence for the rest of the band. Two months later, the group met keyboardist Daniel Bender from Memphis, TN, This would be the WiLX lineup until the Summer of '07.In June of '07 the three Georgia boys made the jump from the small town of Oxford, MS to the musical brewery of Athens, GA. Here they would meet up with an old buddy named Taylor Arnall. This Atlanta native has been playing music and living in Athens for the past several years and had crossed paths with WiLX many times. After completing a short run out West with Arnall playing bass, WiLX as a 4 piece would now begin its journey that is the now, rockin' harder than ever.WiLX completed their first self-titled debut album in March ‘06. It is a 10-track disk with a mixture of genres brewed from the South that leaves the listener wanting more. The Album was engineered at Tweed Recording Studio (Charlie Mars, Kudzu Kings, Cedric Burnside, Jars of Clay) and mastered at Taproot. Both of which are located in Oxford, MS. There is no doubt WiIX is moving forward and becoming better known everyday."We are extremely devoted to our music and the hard work that comes with it.
