Kaluun naît en 2002 de la rencontre décisive de deux aficionados de musique anglo-saxonne qui ne demandaient qu’à unir leurs talents : Stéphane, guitariste trafiqueur de sons désireux de jouer du clavier et Laurence, bassiste venue de l’univers du rock, en quête de nouvelles terres d’expressions pour ses lignes si singulières. Jérôme et Delphine rejoignent la formation au cours des années suivantes. Ils lui apportent ce qui manquait à la chrysalide pour éclore : une rythmique efficace et bigarrée, une voix riche et authentique et une deuxième guitare planante. Kaluun est alors prêt à se déployer. En tout juste un an, ces cinq Parisiens déterminés composent et enregistrent 16 morceaux représentatifs d’un univers qu’ils dénomment « Power Trip Hop ». La créature prend son envol… L’univers musical du groupe, alliance unique et indéfinissable de pop/rock/et d’ambiances électro, de sons à la fois planants et incisifs et de textes anglais intenses, évoque des influences aussi diverses que Portishead, Morcheeba ou encore Radiohead. Reconnus pour la qualité de leur répertoire et de leurs prestations, les membres de Kaluun ont su se faire une place dans l’estime du public et des professionnels croisés pendant les concerts. Début 2007, avec Etikal Lab et Time Factory, Kaluun créent le Collectif Mezzanine, qui vise à promouvoir la scène trip hop française. Kaluun was born in 2002 when Stephane (guitar/Rhodes) and Laurence (bass) met. They were all fond of Anglo-Saxon pop, Trip Hop, electronic and rock music. The band came to be what it is now in 2004 when Jerome (drums), and Delphine (vocals) joined the setup. With these arrivals, all the elements came together to create musical harmony. Kaluun's world is a mixture of haunting and intense atmospheres, generated by the melodies of Stephane's Rhodes piano and Delphine's ethereal voice and intense English lyrics. All of this is punctuated by vibrant and overwhelming flurries coming from the fusion of Laurence's and Jerome's rhythmical energy and Stephane's furious custom guitar. Their unique style, which they define as Power Trip Hop, reminds one of bands such as Portishead, Morcheeba or Radiohead. Pierre, their VJ, ads to their performances a visual explosion with his video projections In 2007, with two other bands (Etikal Lab and Time Factory), Kaluun created the Collectif Mezzanine, a collective which aims at promoting French trip hop.
