About Me |
|
November 21, 1926 - September 1, 2005R.L. says, " I got a ass pocket of whiskey, a front pocket of gin, if you don't open this door, I'm gonna kick the muthafucka in!" One simple reason why this style of blues is so damn good, because it's pure and true. These bluesman have lived the life they sing about. Shooting and killing, drinking, gambling, workin' the cotton fields, having dozens of kids with dozens of women, making corn liquor, partying, and living life to the fullest, North Mississippi style. Junior Kimbrough, who claimed 36 children, had a place and never gave up his rural habits like throwing parties every Sunday night with his furniture dragged out in the yard so more people could fit. Before long Junior had to rent a one-bedroom apartment to get a break from the chaos he'd started at home. Junior's old house became more than a club. It was an entity: it was Junior's Place--and without help from a sign or telephone locals gathered on Sunday nights to drink and dance.Check out the blog's for more hellacious characters! |
