| To my Friends and Family:I am training for the Atlanta Half Marathon on Thanksgiving Day, November 22, 2007 with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society ‘s Team In Training program.
The mission of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society is to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin’s disease and myeloma, and to improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
I personally don’t know anyone that has had to battle a blood cancer. I am doing this out of the kindness of my heart. I feel it is the least I can do for someone who really needs someone that cares. Team In Training has paired my teammates and I with an honored hero: AJ Avello. AJ was diagnosed in 2003 with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). AJ's Leukemia relapsed in June 2007. He is currently undergoing treatment. He is 13 years old. His parents say that "he has demonstrated a positive attitude throughout his treatment." AJ enjoys basketball, baseball, hockey, video games, and card collecting. We will run in AJ’s honor as he undergoes cancer treament.
I need all your help and support in raising funds, as well as mental support while training for this race and any suggestions you may have for me. I have come to you because I know that you are a person that cares not only about yourself and me but cares about others. Nobody knows or asks to be put through situations; they happen and we don’t know when they are coming. We all have been through tough times. A saying I love to go by is “treat others how you want to be treated.” I am sure we would all appreciate support from others at a time like this.
