NephanyAbout my art...I started drawing when I was 15, so it's been about 4 years since I started. I just had a ferocious itch to do it one day, and this is where it's lead me. I don't do as much art as I should; I have to be over the edge in motivation to do something. The more compliments and requests that I receive, the more inspired I am to pick up a paintbrush again. A looot of people ask me if my paintings are Amano influenced. So before you ask; the answer is yes. Yoshitaka Amano is one of my biggest idols in the world of art; closely tied with Tomomi Kobayashi. When I first started drawing and painting, I wanted to learn how to mimic Amano's art. Of course I lost interest somewhere along the line and spiraled into something that's altogether different. That may or may not be a good thing. You tell me. ^__^ My mediums and methods... My primary materials include Windsor&Newton brand watercolors and #2 pencils. I rarely, rarely ever stray to a different form of medium. I also work with regular gel and ink pens. Most of my work is done on cold press watercolor blocks. I make my primary layouts with a #2 pencil. I never do freestyle art; everything is intricately layed out (unless I'm doing a speed painting or a quick concept design). A moderately detailed sketch of mine takes about 50 minutes to two hours in total...roughly speaking. I start laying out the paint with a size 000-0 brush (that's about as small as they come), anything smaller would be like painting with a needle. The painting itself...on let's say a 50-70 minute sketch might take me somewhere around 10-15 hours total to complete. As you can see...almost none of my portfolio artwork is complete because I hate sticking to one piece for such a long time. My paintings may seem big after I've uploaded pictures, but a lot of them are actually done on regular 9x12" paper. The increase in size as a result of uploading really makes my errors pop since it's basically blowing everything up a few sizes. Like I said; everything I do is watercolor; I don't edit my flaws in photoshop; I only use PSP to maximize color in my paintings since I use a camera and not a regular scanner to capture my art. Portfolio My portfolio is actually significantly undersized. As I stated before, I haven't been an active artist for very long. I've had the skills for about 4 years, but I've probably only utilized my capabilities for half as long. Roughly speaking, I only own somewhere around 10-15 incomplete concepts. I do have plans to expand my portfolio within the next year. |
