***************
Saxophonist, Flutist, and Composer Laura Dreyer attended the Berklee College of Music in addition to studying privately with Joe Viola, Joe Henderson, Joe Lovano, Lyle Mays, Hal Stein, and Jim McNeely. She has performed as a sideperson with Diva (lead alto), Dr. Billy Taylor, Nenna Freelon, Walter Bishop Jr., Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis Jr., Dom Salvador, Helcio Milito, Portinho, and many others, and has toured and performed extensively in the US, Japan, and Europe as a jazz artist. She is a three time recipient of grants from the National Endowment for the Arts. Mysterious Encounter, her longstanding Brazilian-jazz ensemble features Dreyer on saxophones and flute and has featured many well-known musicians in the Brazilian Jazz idiom. The group headlined the Kennedy Center’s "Mary Lou Williams Women in Jazz Festival" in 2001 and opened for David Sanborn at the Syracuse Jazz Festival in 2000. They have also performed at many of New York City’s top clubs, including Sweet Rhythm, Birdland, Le Bar Bat, Sete MOMA, The Fifth House Performance Space, El Taller Latino Americano, Caviarteria, La Belle Epoque, Zanzibar, Europa Café, and most recently, at the popular Tribeca lounge, Dekk. She is currently on the faculty of Hoff-Barthelson Music School and was a regular columnist for Saxophone Journal for five years. In addition to her music career, Laura has studied and performed comedy improv and sketch comedy at The Peoples Improv Theatre and the Magnet Theatre in New York City, and has appeared on television and radio as an improv actor. Laura Dreyer uses and endorses JodyJazz Saxophone Mouthpieces. *** I have added some NEW LIVE TRACKS that were recently recorded at Dekk in NYC. The personel is as follows: Laura Dreyer - Alto Sax, Alon Yavnai - Keyboard, Leonardo Cioglia - Bass, Mauricio Zottarelli - Drums (Arcade & Beijo do Sol)***

"Balmy bossa-influenced jazz-pop from a pretty San Francisco native whose sax and flute playing do indeed suggest she's learned a bit from Milton Nascimento and Gilberto Gil records...smooth, but not that smooth. The Beatles cover is quite tasty.
- Chuck Eddy/Village Voice

"Laura Dreyer currently leads a funky Brazilian group called Mysterious Encounter. The music has a contemporary feel to it without being as vacuous as so-called "smooth" jazz. In fact, Dreyer's roots in be-bop are apparent, even on the funkier numbers. Laura Dreyer is clearly a talented musician. This is a strong debut.
- Scott Yanow/L.A. Jazz Scene
