About Me |
| Elizabeth Marlowe has been called a lot of things in her life, but "typical" is not one of them. A graduate of UGA Law School, she became part of the Athens, Georgia music scene as an entertainment lawyer for both the unsigned and the famous. Elizabeth's first trips to Nashville were in support of her songwriter clients, but as she played her own songs for the publishers she connected with and the feedback grew more and more positive, she opted to focus more on writing and less on lawyering. Elizabeth grew up in the suburbs in NY, the daughter of a professional jazz trumpeter and a nurse. She was plucked like a little green apple from her cozy suburban life and transplanted in Hollywood, FL at the age of 10. The surgery was not a complete success. The beach was nice but the schools were rough, and Elizabeth turned to the guitar to work out her angst. Her first guitar was an Epiphone acoustic, which she loved and wrote her first song on. The guitar was tragically smashed by the stoned ass of a classmate in the 10th grade. She never got over it. Elizabeth got a nice Alvarez to aid in her recovery from the trauma, then a vintage Strat, and she now has a full-blown guitar addiction. Shas been playing and writing songs for most of her life now, and she's always evolving. She has fronted an all-girl rock band, played bass (badly) in a jazz ensemble, and then spent some time trying to find her own musical voice. She fell in love with country music when she discovered Patty Loveless, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Trisha Yearwood. The last few years have brought success in the way of song contest wins and some independent cuts. She has co-written with some of the finest staff writers in Nashville, as well as some of the best unsigned writers in the world! Elizabeth's song "What If I Can't" was the winner of the CMT Listener's Choice Award in last year's CMT/NSAI Song Contest. She lives with her son Jackson, an up and coming guitar god, along with their merry band of crotch-sniffing hounds Penny, Piglet and Butchie. |

My Interests |
Music:Member Since: 2/13/2006Band Website: tunelawyer.com Band Members: adopt your own virtual pet! Influences: FAVORITE ARTISTS: My earliest influences were Dan Fogelberg, Jackson Browne, Karla Bonoff and I guess the Archies. Stage II was Mary Chapin Carpenter, Trisha Yearwood, Patty Loveless, and Vince Gill, all of whom I still totally love and if Vince's voice was the only sound I could ever hear for the rest of my life I would not be unhappy. Later on, my taste developed to its current preference for the more original and the less radio friendly, such as Lyle Lovett, Mary Gauthier, Marti Jones, Kasey Chambers, Garrison Starr, Vince Bell and Lucinda Williams. If it's commercial radio, I'll turn it up for Brad Paisley, Garth and/or Trisha, B&R, Carrie Underwood, Jack Ingram and Sugarland. Oh and Keith Urban, he's just so damn believable. And hot.   FAVORITE WRITERS: Rodney Crowell, Jeremy Spillman, D. Vincent Williams, Anthony Smith, Chris Wallin, Jeffrey Steele, Stephony Smith, Travis Meadows, Lisa Carver and of course the most special place in my heart for Peace Marvel, Dave Berg and James Dean Hicks.   FAVORITE UNSIGNED ARTIST: Ladd Smith. And Kellie Coffey. Why the hell is the best female vocalist on the planet having to pimp her new CD on iTunes?? Please do yourself a favor and GO BUY IT!! Check her out at www.kelliecoffey.com   FAVORITE SONGS I DIDN'T WRITE: Metal Firecracker by Lucinda Williams. These Pines by Kasey Chambers. Poison by Chuck Cannon. I Can't Stop You by Jeff Steele. Satan and Grandma by Chris Wallin. As for the more commercial, I choose Anywhere But Here by Dave Williams, and the Dave Berg triple play: If You're Going Through Hell, Stupid Boy, and Moments. Wow. Just wow!   FAVORITE BEVERAGE: Sailor Jerry and Diet. This is the antithesis of Captain and Coke, but a much better cocktail in my opinion. I also like a nice sangria on a steamy hot day.  FAVORITE RESTAURANT: Claudia Young's kitchen. If the offer ain't open, save me a seat at the Loveless! Who knew I actually like sorghum! Oh and I am also totally addicted to the Kentucky roll at Sushi Yobi.  FAVORITE GUITAR: That would be a toss-up between my Gibson L-130 and my Larrivee OM.   FAVORITE MOVIE: The Princess Bride, Fargo, Rebecca.   FAVORITE TV SHOW: Dexter on SHO. A forensics detective who moonlights as a serial killer! Yes I say! Yes!   DESERT ISLAND CDs: Anthony Smith - If That Ain't Country. Mary Gauthier - Mercy Now. Vince Gill - These Days Disc 2. Dan Fogelberg - Nether Lands. Chuck Cannon - God-Shaped Hole. Lyle Lovett - I Love Everybody. Lucinda Williams - Car Wheels on a Gravel Road. (how many am I allowed to bring?) Gilberto Gil - Qanta. Dave Berg - Three Perfect Days (cause I always say something stupid).   DESERT ISLAND PERSON: Anyone? It would have to be someone interesting, there'll be a lot of time for talking. Lyle Lovett! I met him a couple years ago, the guy is a brilliant conversationalist. And despite the giggles this will no doubt cause, he is actually pretty damn appealing. Or maybe Anthony Smith, cause maybe I don't want to do much talking if I am dying a slow death stranded on a boiling hot tropical atoll...  FAVORITE BOOK: Most recently: Middlesex, The Kite Runner, and the Martha Stewart Baking Book! I am the carb queen! FAVORITE ICE CREAM FLAVOR: Mayfield Moose Tracks. Also fresh peach from the Hot Thomas peach stand in the summertime. FAVORITE PUBLISHER: Harlan Howard Music (I read "The Secret" and I have to put it out there every chance I can!). Seriously, Melanie is a wonderful and amazing person, and man does she have a knack for picking the best writers on the planet, and for persuading top artists to cover songs that they never imagined they would.   Sounds Like: Perhaps Tracy Chapman, or Mary Chapin Carpenter if you squint your ears real hard. Tom Waits also comes to mind... Record Label: Looking for a publisher...to change my nite to day Type of Label: None |
