| Byd Mawr is a non-profit making organisation which aims to promote cultural understanding and international awareness by promoting live music events and club nights, mostly in North Wales.
Over the last two years we've put on gigs by Nuru Kane, Johnny Clarke, Blocoelectro, Kissmet, Kasai Masai, The Mighty Diamonds, Etran Finatawa, and Molara. with our friends Bindi Slippage and Fright Night we've brought System 7 and Eat Static to play some awesome shows in north wales Our music policy is deliberately eclectic and we take inspiration from our backgrounds in free festivals, dance culture, radical politics and especially WOMAD. At our events you’ll hear everything from funk, reggae, African, Asian, Celtic and Latin to the global fusion grooves where dance beats meet world music. We aim to put a smile on your face and create a spring in your step. Benefit gigs are a speciality! The Byd Mawr DJs are fflyffilyfbybl, Tiny Bear, Hippy Ad n-rich and Senor Tim. Music:Past gigs 2007/8Friday 7th March 2008 Hendre Hall, Talybont near BangorTemple of Sound playing live…..support from the Byd Mawr DJs Temple of Sound are led by Neil Sparkes and Count Dubulah – both prime movers in the orginal line up of Transglobal Underground. Together they’ve gone on to form one of foremost production teams in world music, dance and dub. Over the years they’ve worked with the “A list” of world music musicians including Natacha Atlas, Peter Gabriel, Omar Puente from Cuba and Mexican band Los De Abajo. Their new album Globalhead has recently been released to great critical acclaim. Their music has been described as a sound which perfectly captures 21st Century London, that unique cultural mix where the basslines from a basement dub session mingle with the Latin American drum class next door; the cassette playing in the Middle eastern cafe across the road and the Hip-Hop booming from a bedroom round the corner On the night Neil and Dubulah will be playing withBen Badoo- Ghanian master drummer - balafon and djembe Princess Juliana- reggae singer Jo Legwabe – Zulu vocals and percussion Winston Blisset –bass (ex-Massive Attack) Neil and Ben Badoo both played at Byd Mawr’s Second birthday in Hendre Hall last November and loved the atmosphere and the warmth of the crowd. the feeling was mutual!
