Citing artists like Kelly Price, Mary J Blige and Mariah Carey as inspirations, Monique credits her talent to her father’s musical and mother’s poetic backgrounds.A triple threat, Monique writes, produces and performs her own music. Serious and dedicated, Monique spent several years honoring her skills. Aspiring from an early age to make music her life, she attended the New Conservatory of Music at the age of 13 where she was awarded 2 gold medals. As an adult she graduated from the Trebas Institute where she majored in recorded music and production. Soon after graduation Monique started her own production company – Mo’Spence Productions."In the Canadian music industry, you have to be really dedicated to doing it for yourself," says Monique, who’s musical portfolio boast over 200 original songs written and produced by her. “There are a lot of trials and tribulations you have to go through to get what you want especially when you feel like it belongs to you”After hearing one of her songs on heavy rotation on DJ Starting from Scratch’s well known Flow 93.5 traffic Mix show, she knew she had to seize the opportunity and jump into action. Monique is now ready to take her sound to the people.Blending elements of rock, R&B and Gospel, Monique’s sound has been described as melodic with an edge topped with a tantalizing touch of soulful grit. Monique attacks the mic with the confidence and attitude of a seasoned diva. She has backed-up local Canadian reggae artists including Belinda Brady, Sonia Collymore, King U Jah, and international reggae artist Lenn Hammond to name a few.Performing in many local clubs and lounges throughout Ontario, Monique has gained a loyal fan base. Her online presence on MySpace can’t be missed, since the launch of her page in 2006 her music has been played over 2 MILLION times!Always remembering where she came from and the hurdles she’s overcome, Monique is passionate about providing inspiration to young girls, and youth in general.
