Profile GeneratorThe Evil Sweeties are Jo Cooper (fiddle, banjo, voice), Laura Hewison (voice, cello) and Sarah-Jane Miller (voice, flute, mandolin).
Each members different musical influences mean that their repertoire is eclectic and their style intriguing. Based in the North East, they play a mixture of traditional and contemporary music from the British Isles, the American Appalacian mountains and wherever inspires them. Their own songs also form a significant part of their repertoire. The Evil Sweeties' combination of instruments is interesting and unusual but it works!
With raw, passionate, innovative and thoughtful arrangements, The Evil Sweeties express the emotion and true nature of the material they perform.
The group met studying music in Newcastle in September 2003. A few bands (e.g Bmused), informal sessions and drinks later the Evil Sweeties came into being in 2006.
They have played folk clubs, festivals, concert halls (including the Sage Gateshead), pubs, churches, pavements, and community centres!
"A trio who bring out the true sincerity of the material they sing".
Newcastle Green Festival."There were lots of exceedingly positive comments. Your voices and harmonies were particularly enjoyed".
Joanthan Hagger (Heaton Folk)."Nice eyes"- Myspace Fan. |
