| I am an eternal student of the drum. That loves to play. I embrace all people despite their differences. The world is one!I have been playing percussion since the age of ten. I was taught by many people. First Karl Potter who lives in Rome now and then Marvin "Bugalu" Smith, who became a life long teacher and friend for me. Later I studied with Babatunde Lea, Coster Massamba, Massengo Constant, Djobi Irie Simon and my little brother, Luisito Quintero. All of these drummers had a great influence on how I play and how I live my life. I must say that Marvin Smith inspired me a lot, because he is the one that never let go of his Buddhist practice, which we both hold so dear to us. He taught me that technique is important in playing music but it is not the all to end all. It is the the highest human nature (Buddha nature) that rises up out of the person and expressed on her/his instrument. Some people call this the "Holy Ghost"! whatever it is called it is invisible to the eye but can definitely be felt. Through a note or through a smile or through one's voice. The vibrations that we pick up from one another is only a reflection of our inner lives.I now reside in New Jersey and I am signed to Motema Music.
