| Sitting on the front porch, a late afternoon in the Sierra Nevada foothills. The sun has just begun its slow decent behind majestic oaks and pines. After driving twelve hours to be here, instruments are tuned up and the first song is kicked off. It starts off a little rough (the two had never sang together seriously, and not since childhood), but with the first chorus something happens that transcends time, space and musical boundaries. Their consonant sense of timing, taste and musicality blend to form what can only be described as spellbinding.
Much can and has been said concerning family harmonies, but unmistakably before them was something more than family harmony. It was the cognate sound of two people who shared homologous musical backgrounds. Two people who were not simply exposed to the same music as children, but whom experienced and studied that music together as a common upbringing.Angela Personeni and Jenny Williams had the good fortune of growing up in an inimitable musical world. Living just a few miles apart, their families formed a kinship though admiration and appreciation of traditional music. Most weekends and many weeknights were spent with the two families joining with friends; to immerse themselves in the world of traditional bluegrass, to study with the living legend among them, and to recreate the sound of bluegrass greats. Having played and slept through some of the best music in the world, the two knew early on that they wanted to play this music and become a part of this unique community.Now, what started off as childhood fantasy has blossomed into a musical collaboration that is as traditional and reverent as it is exciting and energetic. With Jenny on the rhythm guitar and Angela on the upright bass, the two drive Rosebud Blues’ rhythm with organic congruity, and provide dulcet vocal harmonies that evoke memories of years gone by with impelling individuality.
