| What Makes a Pitch "Perfect"? In a word: standardization. The standard for Concert Pitch is an A-note with a frequency of 440Hz. To produce pleasing harmonies and melodies a group of instruments need to be in tune with each other. Over time, musicians agreed to use the A-note for tuning to each other. On a piano, this is the A above Middle-C. On your guitar it's either the fifth string or the fifth fret of the sixth string (low E).SIDEBAR: Why would you intentionally tune so that your 'out of tune'? Isn't this page about "Perfect Pitch Guitar Tuning"? Well... Suppose you play with a group of friends and it turns out that the someones father's instrument plays Concert A at 450 Hz and he won't change that, you can intentionally tune slightly higher. Most electronic tuners even allow you to change the definition of Concert Pitch for situations like this. | |
Music:Soul Music was my first true musical love. Now they call it Old School. Earth Wind and Fire, Kool and the Gang, Con Funk Shun, Tower of Power, WAR, Brick, Rick James, Heatwave, Parliment, I liked em all. About 1978 a good friend introduced me to what's now known as Classic Rock. I still enjoy 2 for Tuesdays on KGB. Also got into the Punk/ New Wave music of that time...good old 91X. Every now and then a song from anyone of these categories wll come over the radio while we're driving in the car and the words to these songs will just start POURING out of my mouth...MY kids either get this huge smile or this really worried look on their faces when I'm screaming,er singing these tunes. Isn't it great the way music can make you feel young again? |
