Malboro lights, dance floor fights, and every member with a different story. Intermarriage of it’s own uncle, sister, brother and son has allowed the city of Lincoln to let slip …theRAYS. A story of five guys united by a common vision- a vision so common it wears burbury scarves and drives lowered fluorescently lit Corsa’s. A musical journey where nobody packed any travel sweets. Just JD. It is a saga of triumphs, tantrums and tamabourines. More than just a cheesy musical cliché: the influences, the mix of the mutual and the personal, the concentration of these factors that goes into the creation of every well crafted tune and lyric that they produce. Something with which they knock all in front of them out of the way and leave in their wake the feeling that you really have just been hit by something significant. The buzz built up at countless gigs created slavish demand to take their music out of the venues and keep it. The result was two recordings in 2005 and 2006. An album and EP. Newly noticed by the local radio and national radio, and with a vibe that grabs your attention in a way that even professional broadcasters can’t ignore, the band were big enough to draw the attention of promoters who felt they had the repertoire, scope and drive to support dirty pretty things and showcase Gibson to which they did to huge acclaim. This they have done but more is to offer. With personal musical tastes ranging from Zeppelin to Kraftwerk, Beatles to Gershwin, theRAYS continue to write, record, practice, drink, and argue as much as they’ve ever done. LATEST NEWSbr 14/12/07 THANKYOU AND GOODNIGHT Tis true. We've decided to call it a day. We've had some quality times over the last two years. Most of them have been down to the people who have supported us through thick and thin. Special thanks go out to those who have followed us everywhere. You know who you are! We got a great response from people all over the country. Our music will now represent the region with 3 other bands. 24 bands will be selected out of 100 nationwide, to play on the BBC's unsigned "one's to watch" stage at Glastonbury. What can we say? We're never satisfied!Go HERE and seek us out . Do your thing for the future of music-kind. 19/02/07 PLAY MAGAZINE The "Up and Coming" section of the December issue of 'Play' magazine had this to say: 'Hanging out with "The Killers" and supporting the "Dirty Pretty Things", it seems like Lincoln-based band, "theRAYS" are the biggest unsigned band around. It won't be long. It can't be! Three months after entering the studio in Late 2004 to record a three track solo EP, front man Andy McEwan left with an eleven track album and a full band. Since then, "theRAYS" have done a string a very impressive gigs. Among their latest conquests, not only have they showcased for Gibson at the Hard Rock Cafe in London but have played at the most prestigious unsigned event in the world: Manchester's 'In The City'. With a new EP out before the end of 2006 and a full frontal gig schedule, things are looking bright for theRAYS' 22/01/07 RECORDING Recording of the new EP is nearly complete. After listening to the first mix the band are looking to head back into dB studios to make a few alterations before sending it to print. As soon as it's ready, there'll be a track uploaded so keep checking back! 13/01/07 COLUMBIA RECORDS Short notice but hey thats how it goes. Columbia Records visit Lincoln on Tuesday at Christophers and theRAYS are playing for them. This gig is the result of a lot of work by local promoters to get probably the top 4 bands in Lincoln together in the same place on the same night. Our personal friends Lipstick Entourage will be showcasing too. Please make it down there if you can and see all the bands. |
