About Me |
|
| I'm a tenor saxophone player and composer based in the UK. I'm into hardbop, latin and contemporary jazz. I gig regularly in duo, trio and quartet line ups - everything from jazz festivals to pubs to wine bars to weddings. I'm presently composing music for a new project: Pete Canter's OCTOBER QUINTET. This band, featuring a sax & trumpet frontline, gave its debut performance at the Exeter Summer Festival in 2007 and will be playing a number of UK concerts in the coming months. The PETE CANTER QUARTET performs across the UK and comprises two distinct combos: my Devon-based band with Ian Wright (pno), Andy Tunbridge (bss) and Dave Sheen (dms) and a second unit featuring Bristol pianist Jim Blomfield, Wayne Elliot (bss) and Gary Evans (dms).Hope you enjoy the recording of Son of Red Blues written by UK jazz pianist Mike Taylor. The band is Dhevdhas Nair on piano, Mark Heyward on drums and Riaan Vosloo on double bass along with myself on tenor sax. Slick is one of my own tunes played by the same combo. The duo recording of Freddie Hubbard's Little Sunflower features Ian Wright on piano. Samba Groove is a version of a Sergio Mendes tune played here by my trio with Jim Blomfield on piano and Wayne Elliot on bass. Salt Train is another of my compositions written for Pete Canter's OCTOBER QUINTET with Ian Wright (pno) Tim Sayer (tpt) Kevin Sanders (bss) and Dave Sheen (dms). Dindi features Claire Hoinville singing with my 5-piece function band (yet to be named). The band is Ian Wright (pno), Andy Tunbridge (bss), Gary Evans (congas). My bands have played at a number of UK jazz festivals including Teignmouth, Bude, Cheltenham, Exeter Vibraphonic, Pontypool, Hayne Barton, and North Devon Festival. We have supported Polar Bear in the Exeter Vibraphonic Festival and the Kyle Estwood Band in the Exeter Summer Festival. In 2005 I was awarded a grant by Artsmatrix to study jazz composition with Iain Ballamy and have since done several gigs with him most recently in the North Devon Festival and at Teignmouth Jazz Festival. Details of all my gigs are on my website at www.petecanter.com where you will also find more short mp3 clips of my duo, trio and quartet. Do check them out.
