About Me |
|
| the Books are:
Nick Zammuto. After completing college studies in chemistry and the visual arts, Nick worked as an art-conservator before moving to New York City for a year to pursue his creative work. Forgoing his aspirations in synthetic-organic chemistry, he instead focused his efforts on synthetic-organic music, releasing his tracks on small experimental labels such as Apartment B and Infraction. He briefly relocated to Los Angeles, where an ensuing existential crisis led him to walk from Maine to Georgia along the Appalachian Trail. Having, since then, supported himself by cooking food at inns and cafés, and occasionally teaching art at local schools, he has continued his musical work as ½ of the Books. Paul de Jong. Born into a musical family, it is said that Paul sawed through his own umbilical chord with a cello bow, although he didn't start studying the instrument seriously until the ripe age of five. He took a razorblade to his first audiocassette at age fifteen, moving quickly through feverish periods of teenage experimental bandlife and absurdist theatre. Concertizing classical repertiore and composing instrumental and electronic music for dance companies, he existed as such through his early thirties. After receiving music degrees in his native Netherlands and having studied at the University of Illinois, he moved to New York City in 1993 to briefly study at the Manhattan School of Music, teach cello to little girls, assist nonagenarian electronic music pioneer Otto Luening, and become the other ½ of the Books.
