About Me |
|
| Rachel Thorson Veliz is a visual and spoken word artist from Wilmington, California, an industrial suburb of Los Angeles. Her work is biographical in nature focusing on emotion and identity and is influenced by her mixed descent (her father who passed when she was seventeen was Norwegian, her mother is Mexican). Her work also reflects her struggle to balance indigenous teachings in a modern urban environment. She uses art as a tool for healing, both for herself and her community. She is a wife, a mother, a longshorewoman, a member of In Lak Ech, a Chicana poetry collective, and former owner of The Jaguar and The Butterfly, a gallery in San Pedro, California[LOVEMYFLASH] |
