| The Dee Rangers formed in Stockholm, Sweden, in 1995, when Johnny and Nicke decided to finally have a real go at playing their favorite music, the true 60's garage/beat/rock'n'roll that they both love. They recruited Per to handle lead vocals, and after a few rehearsals Uffe joined on drums. Per left the band to focus on the band he had with his brother, and didn't rejoin until the summer of 2003. The Dee Rangers had during this time recorded and released a number of singles for various cool labels around the world, toured Europe and hired and fired singer Mike Eriksson. Two albums for Swedish label White Jazz had also been released, "So Far Out So Good" in 2002, and "Pretty Ugly Beat", recorded at Toe Rag in London, in 2003. At Toe Rag the band got to know Parsley the Lion, who joined the band as a full-time organ player soon thereafter.
In August of 2003 the line-up was finally complete, and the band decided to re-record some of the songs from the two albums with the new line-up. This live-in-a-basement session surfaced in the fall of 2004 as "Backs to The Past, Bollocks To The Future", a CD-only album available via mail order or at concerts. In June of 2004 the Dee Rangers went to Gijón, Spain, to record with Jorge of Dr. Explosion. The album that came out in 2005 is "Five Spanish Minutes", on Screaming Apple Records. After playing festivals around Europe in 2004 and 2005, as well as a few short headlining tours, the band again went to Spain to record the follow-up to "Five Spanish Minutes", in January of 2006. The album was finally mixed in October of 2006, and was released in time for the band's March 2007 tour of Spain. The album, titled "Blue Swedes" (as a not too subtle tribute to the great Booker T. & the MG's) features 12 new songs, all band originals, ranging from garage and beat to power-pop, soul and (almost) pub rock. The album cover was designed by Dave Petrone of the Fumestones, and like "Five Spanish Minutes", "Blue Swedes" was released on ace German label Screaming Apple records. Per left Stockholm to live a couple of years in Madrid, arguably the best rock'n'roll city in the world, but as of July 2007 he's back in Stockholm again. The band parted ways with Parsley after the tour of Spain, so they're back to a four-piece again. No worries though, they can still deliver! |
