Myspace Layouts by Pimp-My-Profile.com A state of the art recording studio can render even the most seasoned techno prone professional baffled and appear like Gilligan suddenly beamed aboard the Star Ship Enterprise...CONFUSED! Words like smpte, midi, and terms like bus in, and bus out fly from the lips of the people referred to as recording engineers who impressively make sense of the knobs and lights that make up the control room of a recording studio where all your favorite music is manufactured. At Sean "P Diddy" Combs recording studio Daddy's House, this particular engineer blends in perfectly with the Hip Hop fashion sensibility of the day and at a glance can be easily taken for as an artist in the session. As you may have assumed this engineer is African American which in itself is another milestone reached through Hip Hop considering that white men monopolized the audio engineering field at one time.But a deeper glance at the heads that populate this recording session shows that the timberlands on this engineer are of a petit cut, and the Sean John Jeans don't exactly hang below the waistline revealing boxer briefs. Instead they fit quite snug complimenting inviting curves and a banging...you get the point. And no Rupaul isn't moonlighting as an engineer these days. (Wrong show try Jerry Springer) Thats right, this engineer is a female.World meet Alexis! Alexis Seton is the 25-year-old musical prodigy and daughter of Hip Hop, here to put some WOMAN in MANufacture. Alexis first cut her teeth in the engineering field at the infamous D and D Studios which was best known for its star clientele of raw Hip Hop enthusiasts such as Bootcamp Click, MOP, and DJ Premiere who was Alexis' first guide in the world of sonic boom bap and filtered bass lines which was the staple sound of that analog based music house. Speaking of D and D, Alexis is quick to let a person know that she honed her craft in an environment where engineering was much more hands on and required an engineer to stretch the limits of their know how and navigate through an amalgamation of wires and plugs to perform the most basic of tasks. Before joining the D and D family Alexis took the conventional road for learning her engineering skills by attending a number of schools starting at Buffalo State where her major was communications remarkably at the usually unfocused age of 16. She continued her schooling at Mercy College in Dobbs Ferry New York taking classes in digital audio, audio for video, and musicianship theory. From 1998-2000 Alexis impressively graduated her class with honors earning her a Bachelors Degree in Music Industry and Technology, also remarkably the first woman to ever do so. However, this is the real world, and in the real world young black girls in recording studios are usually there getting their "eye candy" on and not tracking on a SSL console. " Plenty of times when I first started a client would walk in and look at me like, ok who are you? Where is the engineer? When I first started working at Daddy's House Puff didn't even want to work with me. Suffice it to say, Alexis now holds down the spot of head engineer at Daddy's House" A testimony to her skills indeed, not to mention that a great many of the former skeptics and non believers now exclusively request Alexis to engineer their sessions since she has proven that that she can not only perform her duties efficiently, but also possesses the proverbial "ear" and can anticipate a producer's or artist's desire for sound adjustments. Alexis' discography can practically be cut and pasted into any industry circular and with the exception of the actual order of artist, make up the top 20 list of artists and songs in Hip Hop music, with a dash of Britney Spears to boot! When asked about her grand plans in her field, Alexis in true pioneer spirit enthusiastically speaks of getting into teaching. Music mogul turned recent Statesman P Diddy perfectly sums up Alexis' contributions when he states:" Alexis has always lived up to my expectations. She is constantly raising the bar as far as being a dedicated and hard worker. Alexis is on the path to being one of the best audio engineers in the entertainment industry." Today Alexis is beginning to experience her own form of fanfare, especially since she appeared on the last season of the MTV aired " Making the Band". This is certainly her time to shine. And be warned, Alexis demands respect in her work place, so if you tell Alexis to "back that thang up" in the studio, you better be referring to the song!
