| As a DJ, when you make it known that your inspirations are DJ Jazzy Jeff, Coco Chanel and DJ AM, you had best show and prove, and then some. Luckily for Brooklyn based DJ, Sofie Fatale, that's the least of her worries, as she is about to destroy the norm and turn NYC nightlife on its end. Born in Venice, California, she moved to New York early in her childhood, but still maintains a bi-coastal swagger evident in her sets: one minute she's playing vintage Jay-Z, the next B-More club, the next reggaetón, the next electro, funk, soul, whatever sounds right...all seamlessly blended into each other. Her craftiness on the 1 and 2's stems from her musical surrounding as a child: her father played bass, guitar, drums, and piano around the house, with Sofie soaking in each note and chord. Her mother, incidentally, bought Sofie her first hip-hop record: Kid-N-Play's "Ain't Gonna Hurt Nobody" being the introduction Sofie needed to her Hip Hop sound. Her skills, swagger, and style (take one look at her and you'll realize her fashion sense is as fresh as her sets) set her apart from other DJs in NYC, and have gotten her numerous gigs at NYC's downtown spots (G-SPA, Anchor, Rewind, Manor, Lotus, Strata, Star Lounge), high-end boutique events, as well as corporate suitors (she played at FOX's 2006 Holiday Event; Latina Magazines Latina Lounge Event) "I don't compare myself to other female DJs, because there isn't another female DJ in New York that can do what I do. I'm not being cocky; I've researched them all…to me a woman can have some sex appeal in front of two turntables, and still be cutting, scratching, mixing, blending, mashing with precision and skills. I hope and strive to bring that art of turntablism back into the NYC club scene”. Boasting a repertoire usually only evident in veterans, Sofie Fatale is set to make huge strides in 2008....
