About Me |
|
| Parker Street Cinema is a kinetic trio wielding piano, bass and drums (along with the occasional sample) to craft the kind of dynamic narratives Gershwin might have written if handed a distortion pedal or three. Abandoned Love Records released their self-titled debut EP in July 2005 and their debut full-length, Music, In the Blood on December 4th, 2007.
"Of all the aptly named bands, Parker Street Cinema falls to the forefront. Lush instrumentals and a capacity for crafting elaborate visuals set this threesome apart from other artists in the instrumental genre." - West Coast PerformerMusic, in the Blood available for purchase for $12.00

Music:Member Since: 1/6/2005Band Website: parkerstreetcinema.com Band Members: Brian Glover - Piano, Kevin Dick - Bass, Ken Mahru - Drums Influences: Fugazi, Sonic Youth, Faith No More, Faraquet, Pretty Girls Make Graves, The Bad Plus, 3 Mile Pilot, Pinback, Tortoise, Crime in Choir, Swords Project Sounds Like: "Ultimately, Music, in the Blood encourages listeners to consider a similar inward narrative, contemplating the textures and layers of sounds. Yet, Parker Street Cinema never let listeners wander too far, always remembering to keep their commanding post-rock power at the forefront." (David Barnes, FakeJazz.com) "Taking instrumental music to a whole new level, the new CD from Parker Street Cinema is somewhat of a first for recent Bay Area local music. The three piece band - bass, keyboards and drums - concocts songs that range in mood from mysterious and ominous to upbeat and fun. And live, the ensemble comes together with guest appearances (the occasional vocalist) and stage antics that bring the whole package together." (The Deli SF) "PSC’s dramatic musicianship is their strength, with a dirty, chunky, groove-centric/funk-infected bass sound, like a freestyle dancing diplodocus, prone to augmented breaks of fuzz that would move tectonic plates. Juxtaposed with nimble piano/synth and crisply executed beat-keeping which morphs from solid spinal scaffolding to intermittent flicks, ticks, and frills, these guys play with gusto and it shows; you can feel the frenetic energy in the music. " (James Crossan, the Silent Ballet) "Parker Street Cinema is a band that lives up to their theatric name... this instrumental trio creates dramatic music that will slap you in the face if you're not paying attention." (Chris Polansky, Eleven Elephants) "...[their] music creeps me the fuck out because it's so intense..." (the-napkin.org) "These guys know how to make an instrumental cd captivating, heavy fucking bass drops every track into line and piano dabbles and flourishes, but then the drums enter. This is when you have the start of a full out rock movie-score opus!" (crooked camera) "Their music is ethereal and authentically haunting."
